Agreement between the Ministry of National Defence and I.S. SA

The Ministry of National Defence and the Information Society SA proceeded to the signing of a programmatic agreement in order to accelerate the transition of the Ministry of National Defence to the digital era. In particular, the Minister of National Defence, Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos and the CEO of I.S. S.A., Mr. Asthenidis Stavros signed an agreement for a total budget of €55 million, concerning 4 major Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) service projects to support the digital transformation of the Ministry of National Defence Services.
The programme agreement marks the start of the implementation of the following projects:

  1. “Processing and ICT-based provision of meteorological data to businesses and citizens (EMS)”, budget €12.007.500.

The aim of the project is the development of a system of meteorological applications, as well as the installation of automatic meteorological stations throughout the country, for meteorological support and the creation of new targeted products (services and applications) for citizens and productive and development institutions, using Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).

  1. “Meteorological Support System for Civil Protection for Severe Weather Events” or “Development of a Short Term Detection and Forecasting System for Severe Weather Events and Information to the Community”, budget €25.000.000

The project includes the upgrade of the RADAR network, the installation of a modern satellite data acquisition and processing station, the upgrade of the atmospheric electric discharge sensor network, and the upgrade of the observation systems for targeted atmospheric parameters.

  1. “Integrated Armed Forces Health Information System (Armed Forces Integrated Health Information System)”, budget €6,288,964.11

This project will achieve the operational upgrade and interconnection of existing internal network infrastructures of the respective Health Services through an Integrated Health Information System of the Armed Forces, in order to simplify/digitize the relevant procedures and make the collection, processing, storage, and management of data seamless on a 24-hour basis.

  1. “Digitization of the Army Geographical Service (GIS) Longitudinal Aerial Photographs Archive – Development and Service Delivery”, Budget €10.800.000.

The aim of the project is the digitization, archiving, cataloguing and metadata creation for the entire longitudinal Aerial Photography Archive (A/PF) of the Geographical Service of the Army, both for its preservation and for the optimization of the digital services offered by the GSA to the public.
