The Chairman of the Information Society S.A., Mr. Dimitris Askounis, addressed a greeting at the meeting of the Ministry of Citizen Protection and the General Secretariat for Civil Protection of Greece in relation to the modernisation and upgrading of the services of emergency number 112.
In his presentation, he highlighted the role of the Information Society S.A. as a key executive agency for the implementation of the digital transformation policy of the country, underlining that the company is present, has a great knowledge and experience in the implementation of e-government projects, following procedures for the design and management of projects incorporating risk minimisation methodologies.
The Information Society undertook and carried out the implementation of the Act “Modernisation and Upgrading of Services related to the European Emergency Call Number “112” using ICT for the best management of urgent incidents and the timely notification of citizens” based on which:

• The facilities of the two operational centres were set up and equipped with the appropriate equipment to operate as Communication Centres (Primary and Secondary) with 50 agents in each of them.
• The Emergency Communication Management Information System has been completed to support the operation of “112” with a new and modern philosophy of architecture, providing geo-tracking and mass information for citizens, businesses and public and private sector actors (mass alerting), while there are appropriate infrastructure and interfaces for interconnecting its internal users with the networks of public telephone service providers (fixed and mobile) and enabling data to be transferred to and from these networks in a standard and secure manner.

As he pointed out, “The Information Society S.A., with the assistance of the Ministry of Digital Governance, is being strengthened. It is ready to contribute to the goal of the Ministry to bring our country to the average, or even higher, of the EU Digital Economy and Society Index”.
