The major challenge for ‘Information Society’, which is the timely and effective implementation of the projects undertaken by the Society for the digital transformation of justice (e-Justice), was mentioned by the CEO of ‘Information Society’, Mr Mr Stavros Asthenidis when giving a talk at a conference organised by ‘Diktio’ (Network for Reform in Greece and Europe) with the theme ‘Justice and Digital Transformation – Where is Greece?’

More specifically, initially Mr Asthenidis presented the progress made in connection with the five major projects for Justice run by ‘Information Society’, with financing from the Recovery and Resilience Fund and the NSRF:

  • Upgrading of the court record-keeping system
  • Upgrading and expansion of ICT infrastructure in the Justice sector
  • Digitization of the data archives of the Ministry of Justice
  • Teleconferencing services in courts and penitentiary establishments and provision of information on the progress of the case lists and exhibits of the courts (Electronic Case List)
  • Interactive digital services for the management of resources, structures and pre-trial data – online information for bodies, lawyers, citizens (Athens Bar Association)

Then Mr Asthenidis pointed out the need to optimize the procedures related to the administration of justice so that the digital transformation tools that are already being implemented can be effectively utilised by judges.

He also stressed the need to strengthen the incentives provided to judges for training in the Justice digital tools, so that these can become a really important asset for their skills.

Finally, Mr Asthenidis noted the need for the Hellenic State to keep supporting and maintaining the digital systems and tools. He said: ‘These needs must be an integral part of the public sector and must be constantly supported by covering the necessary operating costs, to make sure that the projects delivered by ‘Information Society’ under the guidance of the Ministry of Digital Governance will continue to deliver for many years to come.’
